My name Is Laurel Lau.
Growing up in a traditional Chinese family in densely populated Hong Kong, I received a deep and detailed education on discipline, respect and Confucius-based beliefs. I also received a world-class formal education that began in elementary school and included elite institutions such as Diocesan Girls’ School (Hong Kong), Choate Rosemary Hall (Connecticut, US) and Northwestern University (Chicago, IL).
From the outside looking in, it appeared to be the perfect life of privilege. But behind closed doors, I experienced abuse and watched helplessly as mental health issues among my family members took their toll. A depressed mother and distant, uncommunicative father meant that I struggled to find a self-identity that was positive in any way. I felt torment over the depression and sadness in my family, but instinctively knew that I had to help myself before I could bring help of any kind to them.
I went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing and Design at Northwestern University as well as a Master’s degree in Computer Science, but the intense interest I had begun to have in Human Psychology as a child remained with me. I found that its tenets allowed me to appreciate my family and childhood experiences despite the pain and dysfunction in them. As an adult, I knew I had to learn more – I had to follow my heart and fully explore how the mind and body could be in perfect communion.
After many years of self-study, guided study with masters of spiritual healing processes and meditation, I made the choice to pursue the practice of energy-healing and devote my life and career to helping people live a life of peace, joy, self-acceptance and glory.
